If you’ve never been to a Jonathan Coulton show, there is no excuse for you to maintain that horrible win - loss record in 2012. With the tour dates scheduled so far for Two Thousand Twelve, The Bearded One is most likely playing in a town near you.
I am fortunate enough to have been backstage - because of someonethat has played shows with him - as well as in the audience for a few JoCo shows, I can tell you its not to be missed. Not only because of the music, the intimacy, the laughs and the tears. But also for the fans, their attire, that all of them know all the lyrics and the gifts they bring to bestow upon the bard of our nerd culture. And because Jonathan Coulton really is a Nice Guy™
Tickets go fast. As does the merch. As does the time.

Men at Work’s “Who Can It Be Now?” single came out September 14, 1981. Here’s the original promo video. New wave’s all right if you like saxophones.
What is it with great male leads of bands and having a lazy eye? See also: Thom Yorke

According to CNet’s story, Google Music Store Could Launch This Fall, Google will be taking on iTunes. Here are a few things that article’s author was either not aware of or just did not piece together.
It just makes perfect sense to the point of being blatantly obvious. Google had that search results partnership with LaLa, then Apple (being mad that Google got into the mobile phone business)decided to buy and close LaLa. Its also pretty obvious that with the changes coming with Apple’s MobileMe service (there will be a free version either along side a reduced-fee pay version, or free will completely replace the existing MobileMe solution) a streaming iTunes-ish service (LaLa’s technology/engineers) could be coming from Cupertino sometime soon as a part of the revamped MobileMe package.
So why wouldn’t Google try to pre-empt / compete with Apple on this front? Google already made indications of potentially heading down this path when the LaLa-Google search results partnership started. Now with the popularity surrounding services like Rdio, MP3Tunes and Pandora, that allow you to access and stream your music library on any device, anywhere (that there is connectivity), and the fighting between Apple and Google (phones, mobile ad platforms, music services) its seems a no-brainer Google might decide to stick a toe in this water.
Recall that Google now counts MP3Tunes’s CEO Michael Robertson as an employee since the acquisition of Gizmo5. It would make brilliant sense for Google to tap their in-house connection to MP3 Tunes to get the Google music store off the ground. We spoke with Michael Robertson at CES 2010 and will have our interview up at The Highway Girl in the coming weeks.
Since Apple snatched LaLa out from under Google on 4 Dec. 2009, expect to see offers made for MP3Tunes and/or Rdio soon from either Google or Apple. You might even see AOL try to get into this space, but not until at least one more streaming service is acquired. Its the AOL pattern; wait until the space is almost consolidated, snap up something and then take 2 years to release a sort-of functioning AOL-branded version.

…so I finally put together a muxtape. I cannot believe I waited this long. Find it at briand.muxtape.com. And there is an RSS feed for it so you can get the latest changes as they happen.
If you’re into those types of things
