Get Sh*t Done Already

I have been using a productivity “system” - or process - for a while now. It is loosely based on David Allen’s Getting Things Done and works for me. However, with the recent announcement of Google’s App Engine and the App Gallery, a recent post on The Lifehacker that the kids are enjoying, the ToDone app on Google’s App Engine and my own kind-of-sort-of commitment to keeping my process efficient, I have added to my ToDo list a project called “My GTD System Evaluation.”

Currently my GTD-inspired system is a hodgepodge of the following:

  • OmniFocus: entire backlog is stored here
  • Inbox Zero: to help me manage email
  • text files: little reminders, org things, etc. - mainly on my phone
  • Google Calendar: we use Google Apps for Your Domain
  • iCal: grabs my calendar from GCal and displays birthdays
  • Blackberry Curve 8310: mobile capture, calendar & email device
  • Google Sync: syncs my Gcal with my Curve’s cal

Of course I am curious and have been looking at Anxiety, Hot Plan and ToDone.

It seems Anxiety will require shifting my entire tasks and projects backlog (or database, whichever term works for you) to Mail.app’s todo lists and iCal. Too much anxiety for me right now, but a viable option in light of Getting Things Done (simply) in Leopard.

Hot Plan is going to require reading the Help file and find other little get-up-and-running posts to even get started using it. This is in contrast to my first experiences with OmniFocus and Anxiety. I was able to very quickly figure out what I could and should do with their UIs.

Of my fellow GTD-ers, I ask this: Is it normal to keep re-evaluating your GTD process(es)? And if so, how often?
